Since our kids stay at home all the time, we need to find fun activities for them to do. These activities should not just entertain them but also teach them some lessons. These should also get them away from using gadgets most of the time. One good thing that you can let them do is design their own shirts with Createe Kit. It’s a fun activity that is also very gratifying because they get to wear their own creation!

The Covid-19 Lockdown and Summer Vacation
In the Philippines, the onset of Covid-19 was just in time for summer vacation. Everyone’s summer plans got ruined, to say the least. Our family was supposed to be in Boracay for a 5-day Holy Week vacation with the clan. But it was canceled because of the lockdown.
During this time, parents are getting crazy with having the kids at home. Children need to eat, converse, play, bicker, whine, create, and what-not. It’s all part of childhood. For those not used to having the kids around 24/7, the new setup can be really stressful.
Thankfully, we have been homeschooling our kids for years, so there is not much of adjustment for us. They just miss traveling, though.
Benefits Designing Your Own Shirt with Createe Kit
So here are some of the emotional, mental, and psychological benefits of designing your own shirt.
Self-awareness. It’s the ability to recognize and understand your own moods and emotions as well as others.
Self-regulation. It’s the innate ability to control or direct disruptive or impulsive moods. Additionally, it allows the child to be able to suspend judgment and think before acting.
Motivation. The activity helps develop a passion for work, which goes beyond money or status. The kids also get to pursue their goals with energy and persistence.
Empathy. It’s the ability to understand the emotions of others.
Social skills. The ability to manage relationships, build networks, and influence others. Working in a collaborative setting while designing CreaTee creates a natural need to be empathic towards your peers.
Finally, there is so much sense of accomplishment and pride at the completion of the T-shirt design.
Our Kids’ Fun Time
CreaTees are made with deliberate choices during designing. The templates, fabrics, and markers are provided but the kids are allowed to make their own. Since we have two kits, they got to exchange colored markers and added touch ups according to what they want. It got them to share. And we just let them do their own thing.
They did the activity with their dad and I could hear them bantering from the next room. They were focused while working but they also had fun. Then two days later, they modelled their creations in the garden. It was fun!
Being older and very talented in the arts, Shawna made a very detailed cat on her shirt. Meanwhile, Shane was more freestyle in her design and she was so proud of it!

Origins of Createe Kit
CreateeKit co-founder Mazura Illani Manshoor said that their social enterprise simply started with started with a baseball bat and 30 cents. “Give me your lunch
money or I’ll hit you with the bat.” That was the trigger that propelled this movement.
She recounted that verbal and emotional abuse by bigger girls led to feelings of insecurity and worthlessness. Eventually, she dabbled in music and joined the choir, which built her confidence and eventually saved her life.
The arts got her through her school years, thus, paving the way for CreaTee’s mission to help other bullied children to find their voice.
EvShe believes that creative arts like dancing, singing, and visual arts are wonderful tools to empower children to be have more empathy and be more confident. It has been found that bullies, most of the time, lack confidence while the victims get their confidence crushed. But the arts help boost emotional intelligence.
According to Dr. Daniel Goleman, a psychologist, children with high emotional intelligence perform well in school and have better interpersonal skills. They are also more likely to have a stable job by the age of 25.
So much so that CreaTee is in the business of building emotional intelligence in children. They do this through their t-shirt design kit that helps build esteem and confidence in children.
As a social enterprise, part of their proceeds goes into our t-shirt design workshops for at-risk and underprivileged children.
Create at Home
We don’t have an end in sight for Covid-19. There’s no cure nor vaccine so classes, along with other mass gatherings, are suspended until then. We are also advised to stay at home and not go out unnecessarily in order to prevent contracting or spreading of the virus.
And this is most especially emphasized for children and senior citizens. Actually, the working population is just allowed to go out for economic reasons—not exactly for safety. The best thing for us to is keep ourselves healthy and also to improve the air quality in our homes.
While staying at home, keep the gadgets at bay for your children. Encourage physical and mental exercise as well as tactile activities. Get them to use their imagination and create new things.

Createe Kit is a good one. Our kids truly enjoyed designing their own shirts and modeling them after two days. Yeah, they had to wait before wearing them because the paints need to be air-dried.
Actually, if used properly, it only takes 24 hours for the paints to set. But since the kids had extra clumps of paint, we needed an extra day. That’s part of learning and discovery—there are no mistakes here.
