The Covid-19 Lockdown and Summer Vacation
In the Philippines, the onset of Covid-19 was just in time for summer vacation. Everyone’s summer plans got ruined, to say the least. Our family was supposed to be in Boracay for a 5-day Holy Week vacation with the clan. But it was canceled because of the lockdown.
During this time, parents are getting crazy with having the kids at home. Children need to eat, converse, play, bicker, whine, create, and what-not. It’s all part of childhood. For those not used to having the kids around 24/7, the new setup can be really stressful.
Thankfully, we have been homeschooling our kids for years, so there is not much of adjustment for us. They just miss traveling, though.

Our Kids’ Fun Time

They did the activity with their dad and I could hear them bantering from the next room. They were focused while working but they also had fun. Then two days later, they modelled their creations in the garden. It was fun!

Origins of Createe Kit
CreateeKit co-founder Mazura Illani Manshoor said that their social enterprise simply started with started with a baseball bat and 30 cents. “Give me your lunch
money or I’ll hit you with the bat.” That was the trigger that propelled this movement.
She recounted that verbal and emotional abuse by bigger girls led to feelings of insecurity and worthlessness. Eventually, she dabbled in music and joined the choir, which built her confidence and eventually saved her life.

EvShe believes that creative arts like dancing, singing, and visual arts are wonderful tools to empower children to be have more empathy and be more confident. We don’t have an end in sight for Covid-19. There’s no cure nor vaccine so classes, along with other mass gatherings, are suspended until then. We are also advised to stay at home and not go out unnecessarily in order to prevent contracting or spreading of the virus.
And this is most especially emphasized for children and senior citizens. Actually, the working population is just allowed to go out for economic reasons—not exactly for safety. The best thing for us to is keep ourselves healthy and also to improve the air quality in our homes.
While staying at home, keep the gadgets at bay for your children. Encourage physical and mental exercise as well as tactile activities. Get them to use their imagination and create new things.
