Giving Kids a Follow-On Formula Like Similac GainSchool

Weaning your baby or toddler from the breast is one of the hardest decisions that a breastfeeding mom has to make. Another hard decision to make is whether to give a follow-on formula after weaning or not. In our case, I chose to give a follow-on formula milk to our Shane after I weaned her and I actually didn’t regret it. One of the milk brands we explored was Similac GainSchool. Read more.

Exploring the World of Follow-On Formula Milk

Yes, I am a breastfeeding advocate because I know that it is the best nutrition for babies. That is why I continued breastfeeding our second daughter Shane until she was 3 1/2 years old. Despite her acrobatics during feeding time, I actually enjoyed exclusively breastfeeding her because she is healthier and our bond is stronger.

After I weaned her, however, I was contemplating on giving her a follow-on formula or not. Advocates are against formula milk and I won’t go into that. However, I am the one taking care of my child and I think that whatever I give my children is my choice and wouldn’t make me a bad mom.

~ Shane was already a smart and sharp toddler with no social anxiety problems. She easily made friends and learned fast in school. ~

As a work at home mom, I watch over my children and I felt that Shane wasn’t getting enough nutrition from just the food that she eats. She wasn’t frail but she was thin. Moreover, she wasn’t sickly and was actually very energetic. But she was also grossly underweight. So I opted to give her a follow-on formula that has a good combination of nutrients that will complete her daily nutritional requirements.

Another factor that made me decide to give her follow-on formula was because we were preparing her for kinder school. We know that four-year-olds are still young to start formal schooling but she got caught in the K-12 age requirement. Her birthday fell on the cut-off so even at 4 years old, we sent her to Bright Kids Preschool in Lucasan.

Even if it was just one glass a day, I gave her milk to supplement her nutrition and help her de-stress at the end of the day. I felt that she needed it, since she wakes up early, doesn’t takes naps, and won’t even sleep early.

Similac Gain School

One of the follow-on formulas that Shane drank back then was Similac GainSchool. We were attracted to its very unique feature–it is the world’s first formula milk that contains Human Milk Oligosaccharides or HMO, which is typically found in breastmilk. That way, Shane’s system wouldn’t adjust so much with the shift.

~ It was about this time that I weaned Shane. She was already eating different kinds of food but in small portions and I felt those were not enough to give her the proper nutrition. Hence, after conferring with my husband, it was our choice to give her follow-on formula. ~

HMO in formula milk is reported to stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria found in the child’s gut. This can then lead to better and stronger immunity and as much as 66% less occurrence of infection. And I felt that Shane needed this, considering that she will already have classmates and lots of activities in school.

Power-packed

Aside from the protein for growth and development, Similac GainSchool contains additional vitamins like B12, D, and Folic Acid. It has zinc that further boosts immunity. Plus, it also contains calcium for strong bones and teeth, nucleotides for normal cell function and replication, and anti-oxidants that protect cells.

Moreover, Similar GainSchool contains a unique combination of DHA, Lutein, and RRR (Natural) Vitamin E that can help boost the child’s brain function. No wonder that Shane is good in problem-solving and is a logical thinker!

I think I chose well when I chose to give a follow-on formula for Shane.
