Make Your Home Cozy for Kids

It’s a big person’s world. And usually, our homes are designed that way, too. The little ones don’t usually have the room they need to play and learn.

Making your home more kid-friendly will give your children a place to explore and grow. This will also give them memories of their childhood home that they’ll cherish for the rest of their lives.

Home improvements do not need to be grand. Actually, simple touches can make all the difference to a growing child and help him or her feel loved and safe.

Tips to Make Your Home Cozy for Kids

If you’re stuck for ideas on how to make your home cozy for kids, start with these four simple and useful tips. These are already considering that we are in a crisis and our family budget is getting tight.

1. The Kid Space

Give kids their own area where they can let their creativity run free. A space with kid-sized chairs and a sturdy table will let them explore the arts and sciences without messing up the entire house.

From paper crafts and drawings to the old baking soda volcano, kids can and should make messes. That’s part of discovery.

~ Give your kids an area where they can freely express their creatively. Provide old cardboard boxes, papers, and paint. Containing the mess makes it easier to clean afterwards. ~

With everything contained in one spot, cleanup becomes easier and more convenient. You might also want to build a handy low shelving unit to store supplies and creative works in progress.

2. Fluffy Rugs

Floor rugs are not only soft, cozy, and comfortable. But they are also great for constructing forts.

Unlike carpets, they can be easily washed and dried, making the cleanup of spilled drinks and cookie crumbs easy.

Some kids love playing games on the patterns of colorful flat rugs. Meanwhile, others enjoy taking their toys on a stroll through the lush landscape of a furry rug.

Choose bright or dark colors with patterns to help hide stains in style.

3. Clean Air

Kids would grow well and healthy when they constantly breathe in fresh air — both inside the home and out.

Having an inadequate HVAC system can result in stuffy noses, cranky children, and the incidence of allergies and colds or cough. Or all of the above.

It’s important to change filters monthly and have appliances serviced regularly. Maintenance and cleaning will help keep allergens such as pet hair and dust from circulating through the home.

Remember, kids have sensitive respiratory systems. While you certainly want to encourage your kids to play outside, they’ll still be spending most of their time inside playing, doing homework, dining, and sleeping.

So healthy indoor air is a must.

By the way, if allergic rhinitis runs in the family, it would be good to have a Himalayan salt lamp in the bedrooms, study room, and living room. It will certainly improve their respiratory health.

4. Have A Book Nook

Not all of us have curtained window seats often pictured on Pinterest. But that doesn’t mean you can’t create a cozy place for kids to read.

A beanbag or love seat with a view of the garden outside the window can be a great place to let their imagination soar. You can also install an interesting wall art on one side of the room as a statement wall. You can pick a nature scene to make the atmosphere in the room more relaxing. This will encourage your children to pick up a book and spend their free time reading.

You may also want to install a reading lamp nearby for bedtime stories and adventures. Pretty pillows can keep the scene looking inviting and comfortable.

Add a couple of pots of indoor plants to make the area prettier and also fresher.

Choose the variety of indoor plants that are good air purifiers in order to improve the air quality in that area.

Conclusion

It has been almost a year now since Covid-19 broke out. We have dealt with these trying times the best we can.

As parents, we all want the best for our kids. So let’s take a minute out of our very busy lives to look at the world from their point of view. This will not only help them but also open up perspectives for us on how we can improve their childhood experiences.

An art installation, for instance, has a totally different feel when seen from 3 feet off the ground than from 6 feet.

Who knows, maybe you can find matching beanbags in adult sizes so the whole family can hang together.

Family time is always the best time.
