Mom’s Self-Care: How to Take Care of Yourself in This Pandemic

In this pandemic, too many things are being thrown at us at the same time. There are daily family concerns like health and nutrition. Then there is the education of the children, work, bills, and errands that seem like a warzone for a virus. And the situation is all the more worsened when someone gets sick. Being a mom is not easy because whether we are working in the office or staying at home, we are usually the home managers and indispensable. It’s easy for us to forget ourselves. But self-care is very important and here are tips on how to take care of yourself in this pandemic.

Self-Care is Self-Love

As mommies, we tend to forget about ourselves as we give our all-out care to our families. But it should not be, because by then, we will have nothing left to ourselves. In the end, we will just burn out or get sick from exhaustion. Well, I do know that the amount of love we can give is also based on how we love ourselves.

How thoughtful and timely this gift was as we still battling the pandemic, so I thought that I would also share it here with you here.

Tips on How to Care for Yourself in This Pandemic

There are many more things you can do to care for yourself in this pandemic. However, these are the four basic things that will keep you healthy and strong.

Get Enough Sleep

I can’t stress enough the value of a good night’s rest. Last time, I wrote about being a monster mom when I don’t get enough rest. Moreover, not getting enough quality sleep will affect our overall health, including our immunity. Sleep allows our bodies to heal and restore body functions.

Depending on your age, we need to get at least 6 hours of quality sleep at night. If you find yourself struggling with sleep, there are things you can do to help with this. As well as the well-known things like exercise, taking a bath, you could also try a supplement like kratum powder to help you drift off at night – just be sure to find a variety that it known to be good for sleep and make sure that you take the correct dose to help you achieve the sleep you need.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Ever since we were kids, we were taught the three basic food groups in school, especially during Nutrition Month. These are the Go, Grow, and Glow foods, and there is a food pyramid guide that we can follow for optimum nutrition. For a balanced diet, we need a small portion of starch or carbohydrates, a medium portion of proteins, and a large portion of fruits and vegetables.

Eating a balanced diet based on the food pyramid will keep the excess weight off, prevent lifestyle diseases, and keep us strong and healthy. For kids, that would allow them unhindered growth.

~ A balanced meal consists of items from different food groups. Carbohydrates should be the least of all but we should eat up on our fruits and vegetables. Eat small portions, too. ~

Drink lots of water, too, as it cleanses the body of toxins and aids in digestion. As you know, regular waste disposal (pooping) is a necessary bodily function.

Move that Body

It doesn’t mean going to the gym for hours every day. But we need to stretch our muscles and joints from time to time throughout the day. Walking some distance and being active for at least 15 minutes per day will contribute to our overall health. Health experts recommend about 2-3 hours of moderate-intensity physical activity per week.

This is especially true if you work online and are mostly on your seat most of the day.

~ Even 15 minutes per day of brisk walking can already work wonders on our health. ~

Health tip: If you drink enough water, you cannot stay seated for long because your bladder will really push you to go to the bathroom and urinate. So have a water bottle beside you so that you can take gulps from time to time.

Take Your Food Supplements

We cannot possibly eat all the foods in order to maintain our body’s daily nutritional requirements. That is why we need food supplements to fill in whatever nutrients we need. There are multi-vitamins as well as other supplements that could help specific body functions.
