Growing Up with an Oster Blender
At my parents’ house, I grew up having an Oster Blender. If we need something pureed, my mother would say, “I-Osterize yan (Let’s Osterize that).”
But most of the time, we pureed only fruits, like mango and buco, for our fruit shakes. We would put ice, water, and condensed milk and we would enjoy refreshing drinks at home.
Up until now, our Oster Blender is still alive.
When I moved in with my husband, my mother in law also owns an Oster Blender. But lately, after so much use, it gave up. It’s like almost 4 decades old already and we needed a new one.
Healthy Macaroni Soup Recipe
And we are so happy to get a replacement for our Oster Blender from Asian Home Appliance at their branch here in Bacolod City. It is located at the ground floor of Ayala Malls Capitol Central.
We already tried using it and guess what we pureed? It’s carrots! Let us share with you their healthy macaronic soup recipe, mainly because my kids love it so much and I made it healthier with carrots.
Macaroni soup is a comfort food that I usually prepare for the kids when the weather is cool or when someone feels ills. But a lot of times, the kid leave the carrots on their plates because they don’t like the taste. But with this recipe, they wouldn’t even notice it.
Hope you will try this and let me know how your kids enjoyed it. By the way, my daughters are bigger now and I training them in the kitchen.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup carrots, sliced into cubes + 1 cup water
- Cooking oil
- Garlic and onions, chopped
- About a cup of chicken slices
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 5 cups water for boiling
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup grated cheese
- 6 Vienna sausages, sliced
- Chives, cut into little pieces
Procedure:
Let’s start with the carrot puree.
Using your Oster Blender, puree the carrots with water until fine. It doesn’t take long because of the sharp blades of the Oster. About 1 to 2 minutes are fine. Set aside.
Cooking
1. In pot, heat the cooking oil and saute the garlic and onions for about 1 minute and add the chicken slices. Season with about half a teaspoon of and pepper.
Cooking tip: Season your food with every addition of bland ingredients. This makes sure that your dish is seasoned well.
2. Cook the chicken while stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes. Pour in the water, add about a Tbsp. of salt again, and bring to a boil. You may want to add a chicken cube for added flavor. But if you are not keen on using artificial flavorings, rock salt and pepper will do.
3. Stir in the carrot puree and cover. Wait for it boil.
4. When the water is briskly boiling already, add in the macaroni and mix. Remember, the water should be boiling before you add the pasta, otherwise, the macaroni will not be firm. Stir for a few seconds and lower the heat before covering it again.
5. After about 5 minutes, check your pot. Stir and taste your soup. Most probably, you will need a bit more salt and pepper at this point.
6. Pour in the milk and the cheese and mix well. Let it simmer until it reaches a slow boil then add the sausages and chives.
7. You may want to adjust the seasoning once again. Just add a pinch of salt at a time, mixing well, to make sure that the flavors have blended.
8. By this time, you have been cooking for about 10 minutes and the macaroni is already done. Serve hot with bread.
Cooking Tip
The beta-carotene, which is Vitamin A in carrots, is heat-resistant. (Source) This means that you can cook the carrots and still get the important nutrients. Plus, you get a lot of fiber and other Vitamins and minerals. You can really cook carrots well and get your kids to eat them.
The grated cheese and milk neutralize the strong flavor of carrots.
