The ideal backyard is not just an idle space around or behind your house. It is the extension of your home where you can make happy memories with your family. This is especially important now that the threat of Covid-19 is still around us and our mobility is limited. We cannot go around much but we can always create a nice place to hang out. Do you dream of refreshing your outdoor space and creating the ideal backyard? Here are a few tips for creating a great one.

Great Tips to Achieve Your Ideal Backyard

While you may have to spend some money in order to transform your open space into an ideal backyard, the rewards are endless. Besides, you don’t have to spend a lot.

Additionally, you don’t have to do everything at one time. You can work on improving one particular spot per weekend so that you will not be overwhelmed. Plus, it won’t hurt your family budget so much.

We have to be wise in handling our finances because of the economic crisis due to the Covid-19. We don’t know how long this will last.

1. Take Your Kitchen Outdoors

An outdoor kitchen will allow you to host barbecues and garden parties without being tied to a traditional stove.

Best of all, you can get started with nothing more than just a fireplace or simply a fire pit. Throw in some granite countertops or even just a wooden table under a giant umbrella to keep things organized.

2. Add Some Lighting

The right lighting fixtures can bring a whole new look and feel to your backyard. Your happy hours here will never be the same again.

Fortunately, there are so many lighting stores and lifestyle stores where you can find lamps, lanterns, and outdoor light posts. These can really change the atmosphere and mood of your backyard.

~ Outdoor lighting fixtures can enhance the mood and help you create the ideal backyard you have been dreaming of. Don’t worry so much about the electricity–these won’t be turned on all the time anyway. ~

Feel free to play around with different lighting fixtures and placements until you find the ones that work for you! You may want to incorporate neon signs with positive messages. Check out Neon Mama for an assortment of these.

Your family will surely enjoy lazy evenings here, especially during the hot summer months. Just remember that if you’re planning on using any electricity coming from the house to power your outdoor lights, you might want to think about looking into whole house generators in Manchester or somewhere more local to you, if you intend to have a lot of guests round too, for example. This way you’ll be covered if the power suddenly decides to cut out! Once you’ve sorted everything out and got the lights you like, your family will surely enjoy lazy evenings here, especially during the hot summer months.

3. Choose a Theme for Your Backyard

In every design, it is always nice to have a central theme.

Do you like marble? Or maybe, you have always dreamed of relaxing in your very own zen garden? Maybe you just want a yard that’s overflowing with flowers.

~ Zen elements in the yard are always a good idea. ~

Whether it’s “floral” or “oriental,” a good theme can be just what you need to jumpstart your backyard project.

Note: Chinese Evergreens or Aglaonema have patterned leaves that can add color to your garden.

It will also help you make decisions in choosing the elements you want to incorporate.

4. Plan for the Future

When you’re designing and decorating your yard, keep in mind that you’ll probably want to change things at some point.

Who wants to live with the same design for 10 to 20 years? There will come a time when you want to expand your garden, replace your patio tile, or install a hot tub or pavilion.

When your little kids leave the nest, you will want to do something with your garden as your family trims down.

So leave some wiggle room for future developments. For instance, if you have installed flagpole hardware, you can change the flag regularly depending on the occasion or update it if you modify the theme of your garden in years to come. You will be better prepared for eventual changes in the seasons of your life plus you won’t have to spend much on the renovations.

5. Don’t Forget the Plants

A yard would seem bare and hot without foliage. The glare would also be unthinkable during the day.

If you have an expansive propery, you may want to include a tree, or even two, so that it can provide shade. Then incorporate bushes and vines on a trellis.

As for existing trees and shrubbery, trimming and the removal of dead branches would give them a fresh look.

If you are into flowering plants, incorporate them into the landscaping. They can provide nice touches of color to your yard every season. If not, shrubs with different colored foliage will do.

Your Ideal Backyard

These are just a few tips and tricks for creating a great backyard. Whether you’re hoping for a space for socialization or simply a safe area for the kids to play, you’ll need to put some work into bringing your visions to life.

Good luck in creating your ideal backyard!
